Tom Donahue: Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Class of 1996

Donahue began as a DJ in 1949. In 1965, he became a producer.

In 1967, he convinced some stations to begin playing album oriented rock. At the time, radio stuck to pop. Donahue changed this. He died in 1975. For more, see Rock Hall bio.

Lou Reed played in a few garage bands. He met John Cale and they eventually formed the group. The band’s subject material covered drugs, transsexuals, and other taboo topics.

1970: Reed quit. The band continued for awhile, but was never the same.

The band has reunited several times through the years.

Pete Seeger: Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Class of 1996



Pete Seeger is an iconic folksinger whose career spans from the 1940s.

In the 50s, he had a hit with the Weavers with a Leadbelly cover:

The band got blacklisted during the McCarthy era, but Seeger reemerged in the sixties.

He scored hits as a songwriter:

He also popularized We Shall Overcome:


Seeger was deeply involved in the Civil Rights Movement.

In recent years, he played the Obama Inaugural.

The Who: It's Not Enough (2006)

Pete Townshend wrote "It's Not Enough" with partner Rachel Fuller and recorded the song with The Who. The song became the band's first hit since 1982. Townshend broke up The Who in 1982, but the band reunited occasionally through the years. The Concert for New York and addition of Ringo Starr's son, Zak Starkey, on drums reinvigorated the band. They are currently on hiatus.

Frank Sinatra: High Hopes (Kennedy 1960)

FDR had "Happy Days Are Here Again" and JFK followed with a catchy tune of his own. He borrowed Frank Sinatra's talents for "High Hopes" to tap into the optimism and youth of his campaign. JFK won a nail biter over V.P. Richard Nixon.

Rage Against the Machine: Sleep Now in the Fire (2000)

Rage Against the Machine wrote from an extreme left political standpoint. "Sleep Now in the Fire" attacks greed and the band filmed the video at Wall Street. Michael Moore directed the shoot. The song includes many historical references. During the song, the band criticizes Euro-American policies and actions in Vietnam, World War II, Africa, and the New World.

Bruce Springsteen: Human Touch (1992)

Bruce Springsteen fired the E Street Band after Tunnel of Love and went solo. Afterward, he released two solo albums that proved different than his earlier work. Human Touch and Lucky Days represented a man more content with himself and the world. The lead single, "Human Touch", features American Idol's Randy Jackson on bass.
