U2: Vertigo (2004)

The Edge described "Vertigo" as "the mother of all rock tunes." Bono opens with "Uno, dos, tres, catorce!" which Bruce Springsteen proclaimed "rock n roll." In English, it means "one, two, three, fourteen!" Bono claimed alcohol might have been involved at that point in the writing process.

U2 formed in 1976 in Larry Mullen’s kitchen. The group went from “The Larry Mullen Band” to “Feedback” to “The Hype” before settling on U2. They won a talent contest, which allowed them to record a demo. U2 scored a hit in Ireland in 1979 before expanding overseas. Island Records signed them in 1980.

U2: Breathe (2009)

Edge created the initial treatment for “Breathe” after working with Jack White and Jimmy Page for It Might Get Loud. The song is directly influenced by the pair. Originally, the lyrics referenced Nelson Mandela, but the band developed a second set that was eventually used.

Led Zeppelin formed out of the Yardbirds’ ashes. In fact, they formed as the “New Yardbirds” in 1968. They helped pioneer the next phase of album oriented rock that dominated the early seventies. Zeppelin began as a blues-oriented rock band and expanded to other forms such as folk and even medieval music. The band explored many themes including mythology and history to go along with the usual rock topics.
