The Beatles are rejected by Decca Records, Bob Dylan releases his debut, and Peter, Paul, and Mary have a #1 album. Pete Seeger has a big year as well. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards meet Brian Jones and the Rolling Stones form. The Beatles appear on "My Bonnie", which is credited to Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers. Elvis dominated while the Twist permeated.

Oldham managed the Rolling Stones from 1963-67. He encouraged Mick Jagger and Keith Richards to write their own songs, promoted the Stones image as a counter to The Beatles, and demoted Ian Stewart because he appeared too old. Oldham produced all the Stones recordings during this period.

The Rolling Stones: Memory Motel (1976)

Mick and Keith share vocals on "Memory Motel", which is unusual for a Stones record. It is also one of the longest Stones songs at over 7 minutes. The motel itself is based on an establishment in Long Island, New York. The identity of the woman in question is not known, but speculation ranges from Annie Liebovitz to Carly Simon.

Keith Richards: Take It So Hard (1988)

Keith Richards decided to record a solo album when Mick Jagger refused to tour. Talk is Cheap is one of the best albums of the late 80s and “Take it So Hard” is the lead single and second album track. It’s perfect Keith complete with a gritty riff and post-apocalyptic video.

He died in 2005 after working with a number of artists including Eric Clapton, George Thorogood, Keith Richards, and Bo Diddley.

Elvis Presley: Heartbreak Hotel (1956)

Elvis scored his first million seller and the biggest hit of 1956 with "Heartbreak Hotel." The song is based on a man's suicide. Apparently, the poor soul jumped out a hotel window after his woman left him. The song spent seven weeks at #1 on the pop charts and also hit #1 on the Country charts. Both Keith Richards and George Harrison credit "Heartbreak Hotel" with motivating their entry into rock n roll.

The Verve: Bittersweet Symphony (1998)

"Bittersweet Symphony" is a defining song for the 1990s. It captures the zeitgeist of much of the decade as well as the trials and alienation of a generation attempting to gain footing in the world. Ironically, the song's release coincided with a change in the culture and a move toward less weighty issues. The song included some sound effects from the Rolling Stones song "The Last Time" which resulted in plagerism charges. Keith Richards and Mick Jagger ended up with writing credits on the work. However, much of the royalties went to the Stones' former manager Allen Klein who pushed the suit against The Verve.

The Rolling Stones: Has Anybody Seen My Baby? (1997)

Keith Richards put his new record on and his daughter starting singing "Constant Craving" over it. At that moment, he realized the similarity and the Stones gave KD Lang writing credit. In addition, the band samples Biz Markie. The video included Angelina Jolie as a stripper.

931. As Tears Go By by Marianne Faithfull (1964)

It is a myth that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards wrote "As Tears Go By" as a response to Paul McCartney's "Yesterday." However, this is one of Jagger-Richards first original songs as the Rolling Stones branched out from a blues cover band. Marianne Faithfull scored a major hit with the song in 1964. The Stones manager forwarded the song to her since they weren't known for ballads. Following Faithfull's success, the Rolling Stones recorded their own version in 1965.
