Albert King, B.B. King, and Freddie King are the "Three Kings of the Blues Guitar." Albert cut his first record at age 30, but did not score a major hit until he was nearly 40. In 1966, he signed with Stax.

Isaac Hayes influenced several generations of artists. He helped invent the Stax sound, wrote the Sam and Dave hit “Soul Man”, created the theme to “Shaft” and later played Chef on South Park.

Hayes began as a writer, but became a recording artist in the mid-60s.

Jim Stewart: Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2002

Jim Stewart worked at Sears and fought in World War II. He tried country music after the war, but found his true musical calling when he founded Satellite Records in 1957. They originally produced country records, but grew into something much bigger. They moved to the Capitol Theater in Memphis, which leant itself to unusual acoustics and a unique sound. It became a beacon for soul acts in the 1960s. Stax Records went bankrupt in 1976, but proved a major influence on the Soul Music genre.

The act started in 1948 and signed a contract in 1952. Originally, they were a gospel/folk band, but grew mainstream by the late 60s as they moved toward a pop sound.

Booker T. Jones left Stax before “Melting Pot” and the band retired the name. Although reunions occurred from time to time.

In 1975, drummer Al Jackson was murdered in his home. The three surviving members reunited in 1977 and Booker T and the M.G.’s were back.

Fitz and the Tantrums: MoneyGrabber (2011)

Fitz and the Tantrums formed in 2008 and released their first album in 2010. They are an indie band heavily influenced by soul music in the vein of Stax or Motown. These influences are keenly felt in "MoneyGrabber" which has a huge sound. There is a lot going on in this record.
