Bruce Springsteen: Brilliant Disguise (1987)

I always thought this was one of Springsteen's rawest songs. In it, Bruce admits the failings and doubts of his marriage. He divorced in 1988.

Bruce Springsteen: Out in the Street (1980)

"Out in the Street" combines the downbeat aspects of The River with its more upbeat pop sensibilities. On one hand, the main character is a hard working blue collar man in a bleak world. On the other, he is completely free and never more alive than when he is out in the street.

Bruce Springsteen: Darlington County (1984)

A pair of young guys are driving along the county line looking for girls and work. In the end, Wayne ends up cuffed to the bumper of a state trooper's car. This song exudes youth and fun and is what rock n roll is about. It also marks Springsteen's cultural peak.

Tom Waits: Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2011

Rock Hall Bio: https://rockhall.com/inductees/tom-waits/bio/

Tom Waits has the most distinctive voice in music. He sounds like he drank bourbon while eating sand. Waits combines blues, jazz, vaudeville and other sounds to create his works.

His most popular songs have been covered by other artists.

U2: Vertigo (2004)

The Edge described "Vertigo" as "the mother of all rock tunes." Bono opens with "Uno, dos, tres, catorce!" which Bruce Springsteen proclaimed "rock n roll." In English, it means "one, two, three, fourteen!" Bono claimed alcohol might have been involved at that point in the writing process.
