Eddie Van Halen came up with the riff at 2am one morning. He woke up neighbor and band mate Sammy Hagar and the pair penned this song about unfulfilled sex. The song is about blue balls and is quite straight forward.

"Jump" was released right before Christmas in 1983 and became a soundtrack song for the summer of 1984. Van Halen combined synth pop with their own arena hard rock sound to create one of the greatest works of the decade. It became Van Halen's only #1 song.

You could not escape Black and Blue in the hot, drought ridden summer of 1988. The song went to #1 on the Album Rock tracks chart and was the lead single off of OU812. 1988-89 was a Van Halen summer/fall/winter.

Van Halen: Beautiful Girls (1979)

David Lee Roth fractured his foot doing a jump during a photo shoot for Van Halen II. The injury postponed Van Halen's tour while Roth healed. The album did very well with the public and convinced many new fans to purchase the debut album. Here is one of the album's iconic tracks.
