These Days by Foo Fighters (2012)

Dave Grohl says "These Days" is his favorite song he has written. They performed the song in tribute to people killed at Pukkelpop in 2011 when they themselves played there in 2012. Rolling Stone mag listed it as one of the best songs of 2012. In all honesty, this might be the song of the year and the best thing Foo Fighters has done.

Of Monsters and Men: Little Talks (2012)

Icelandic folk band Of Monsters and Men made an impression at 2012's SxSW festival in Austin, Texas. They topped Iceland's charts with "Little Talks." The track is interesting as it incorporates trumpet and accordion. Don't hear that much nowadays!

Bruce Springsteen: We Take Care of Our Own (2012)

Springsteen debuted "We Take Care of Our Own" at the Grammys. The song states that Americans will help each other in times of need. Although, some believe the song is ironic rather than optimistic. On a side note, Springsteen channels his inner Arcade Fire showing he can adapt to changes in the musical scene.

Kelly Clarkson: Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) (2012)

#1 this week...amazing how far one came come after winning a karaoke contest....and doing girl power anthems. The song was featured in a television commercial recently co-starring Clarkson with ESPN's Chris Berman. The video features a flash mob...one of the recent cultural phenomenons that could stand to disappear.
