The Doors: Five to One (1968)

Jim Morrison experienced a meltdown while performing "Five to One" in Miami. He was arrested for inciting a riot and indecent exposure. STP frontman Scott Weiland said this song inspired him to go into rock n roll. Like Morrison, Weiland died young from drug abuse. In college, a friend put this on at his house parties at 12:55.

Hello I Love You by The Doors (1968)

Jim Morrison wrote a poem for a girl on the beach. The Doors later turned it into this iconic song. "Hello I Love You" became the band’s first UK hit. Later, a UK court ruled the band copied The Kinks "All Day and All of the Night" for the song’s structure.

The Doors: Riders on the Storm (1971)

Robby Krieger claims “Riders on the Storm” was inspired by “Ghost Riders in the Sky.” The song employs thunder and rain effects to create a dark ambiance. According to legend, the song was performed live only once.  Also, it was the last song recorded by the band before Jim Morrison’s death. Leave it to Morrison to go out with a song about a serial killer.

Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek met by chance at Venice Beach. The two joined forces and formed the Doors. By 1966, they were playing the Whisky a Go Go leading to an album deal.

Jim Morrison died on July 3, 1971. The band tried to continue on, but eventually broke up in 1973.

Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger reunited in 2002 and have worked together since. They tried calling themselves The Doors of the 21^st Century, but John Densmore sued. He refused to join because of Morrison’s absence.

The Doors: Back Door Man (1967)

A "back door man" is someone having an affair with a married woman. When the husband leaves, the other guy comes in the back door. The term dates to the 1920s. In the 60s, people began using to term to refer to "anal intercourse." Howlin' Wolf recorded the original in 1960. The Doors covered it seven years later and became a song that defined Jim Morrison, but also the sexual revolution.
