Coldplay: Clocks (2002)

"Clocks" is one of the few iconic songs to come out of the 2000s. It's a piano driven song with minimalist accompanyment. The main theme seems to be the obsession over time as well as a sense of urgency. On a totally unrelated note, the Detroit Tigers play "Clocks" after a loss.

867. Dancing in the Street by Martha and the Vandellas (1964)

If Motown has a signature song, this is it. "Dancing in the Street" captures a moment and mood of both Motown records and early sixties optimism. For a brief moment, the song was given a political tone as some decided to turn it into a civil rights anthem in the aftermath of several inner city riots. In 1985, David Bowie and Mick Jagger cut a version of the sixties hit for the Live Aid charity concert. The pair performed the song together in 1986 for the Prince's Trust Concert.

961. Bless You Boys (1984)

When towns get behind their sports teams, they sometimes come up with cheesy slogans and songs. In 1968, the Detroit Tigers rallied around "Go Get 'Em Tigers." Sixteen years later, it was "Bless You Boys." This video includes clips from the 1984 season. It's fun to see season highlights, Old Tiger Stadium, the wave, 80s fashion, the price of parking, and Thomas Magnum!
