1957 in music

Elvis Presley had another monster year. He scored three #1 hits, bought Graceland, and made his last Ed Sullivan appearance. At the same time, Jerry Lee Lewis released two songs that made him immortal. At the same time, Ricky Nelson, Bo Diddley, and the Everly Brothers record iconic tracks. Meanwhile, John Lennon and Paul McCartney meet for the first time and Simon and Garfunkel unite as Tom and Jerry.

Paul McCartney: Figure of Eight (1989)

Paul McCartney used "Figure of Eight" to open many of his live shows on the Flowers in the Dirt tour. The song broke the Billboard Hot 100 in the US peaking at #92 while it finished at #42 in Britain. The album and tour marked McCartney's return as a major touring act. The 1989-90 whirlwind was his first world tour since 1975-76.

The Bloody Beatroots and Paul McCartney: Out of Sight (2013)

The Bloody Beatroots is an Italian electro-dance project by Sir Bob Cornelius.  Edward Grinch joined in 2010 and the pair don Venom masks for appearances. Venom is a villain from Spiderman comics. In a bizarre collaboration, Paul McCartney joined the Beats for “Out of Sight.”

The Beatles: Eleanor Rigby (1966)

The Beatles tackle neglect of the elderly in “Eleanor Rigby.” Ms. Rigby lived a lonely life, but did not seem to reach out to people either. Likewise, Father MacKenzie also lived a solitary existence, but did little to attract a congregation. Some others have interpreted the track as an analysis of 1966 Britain.

After graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Martin worked at the BBC. During the fifties, he produced comedy and novelty records.

Martin began working with the Beatles in the early 60s and achieved his greatest fame and success.

Paul believed "Tell Me Why" was based on John's experiences with his wife Cynthia. It might be based on Lennon's philadering and Cynthia's response.

The Beatles: Nowhere Man (1965)

John Lennon wrote this song about himself. He was unsure where he was heading in life and had just stayed up all night. Paul McCartney confirmed Lennon's statements saying "I think at that point, he was a bit...wondering where he was going, and to be truthful so was I. I was starting to worry about him."

Paul McCartney: My Brave Face (1989)

Elvis Costello cowrote "My Brave Face" with McCartney. The song went on to be Paul's last Top 40 hit in America. It is also the last song by a former Beatle to crack the Top 40. The Spanish loved it and sent it to #1. "My Brave Face" is on the underrated Flowers in the Dirt album and is worth checking out if you are a Beatles fan.

John Lennon lost his mother when he was 17. He had no contact with his dad until his Beatles’ years. In 1957, he formed the Quarrymen, which evolved into the Beatles. Lennon returned to the studio and released his final studio album in 1980.

Paul McCartney: Maybe I'm Amazed (1970)

Paul wrote "Maybe I'm Amazed" before the Beatles breakup. It became his first monster hit after the band dissolved. He dedicated it to his wife, Linda, who he credits with helping him through the Beatles collapse. Although it was a big hit, Paul never released it as a single and is probably his most recognizable post-Beatles song.
