Robin Thicke w/T.I. & Pharrell: Blurred Lines (2013)

The #1 song of the week. You can hear Prince and Michael Jackson's influence in this song.
This is the type of song that plants itself in your brain and NEVER leaves. Catchy, classic pop.

Imagine Dragons: Radioactive (2013)

#1 this week on the rock charts. The video is a hoot. Mad Max meets the Muppets. The moral of the story: don't piss off a radioactive teddy bear. Nice appearance by Lou Diamond Phillips.

Nickelback: How You Remind Me (2001)

Nickelback's "How You Remind Me" was the last rock song to hit #1 on the charts until 2012. It hit #1 in 2002 and was probably the #1 song of the 2000s despite the overall decline in rock n roll. The song was also the most played radio song from 2001-2009. The song is about a man haunted by his ex-girlfriend and sees her wherever he goes.

Fun: We Are Young (2012)

#1 this week...of note, this is the first time since 2001 that a rock band hit #1 on the Hot 100 chart. The last band to do so, Nickelback with "How You Remind Me."

Elvis Presley: Heartbreak Hotel (1956)

Elvis scored his first million seller and the biggest hit of 1956 with "Heartbreak Hotel." The song is based on a man's suicide. Apparently, the poor soul jumped out a hotel window after his woman left him. The song spent seven weeks at #1 on the pop charts and also hit #1 on the Country charts. Both Keith Richards and George Harrison credit "Heartbreak Hotel" with motivating their entry into rock n roll.

Kelly Clarkson: Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) (2012)

#1 this week...amazing how far one came come after winning a karaoke contest....and doing girl power anthems. The song was featured in a television commercial recently co-starring Clarkson with ESPN's Chris Berman. The video features a flash mob...one of the recent cultural phenomenons that could stand to disappear.

Adele: Set Fire to the Rain (2012)

This is #1 this week. I'd estimate the odds of it ending up in a TV show like Grey's Anatomy or such at about 99%.

It reminds me of this from Buffy the Vampire Slayer:

The Black Keys: Lonely Boy (2012)

"Lonely Boy" is #1 on the rock charts this week. When the video hit Youtube, it got over 400,000 views in the first day alone. This is the band everyone seems to be picking to have a breakout year.

Bush: The Sound of Winter (2011)

#1 on the rock charts this week. Never thought I'd see these guys again...thought they were left behind in 1995.
