John Fogerty: The Old Man is Down the Road (1985)

John Fogerty scored a top 10 hit in 1985 with “The Old Man Down the Road.” Later, Fantasy Records sued Fogerty for plagiarizing himself.  Saul Zaentz owned the rights to Creedence Clearwater Revivals “Run Through the Jungle” and argued “The Old Man Down the Road” had the same chorus. Fogerty wrote both songs and won the suit. He later sued Fantasy and was awarded attorney’s fees.

The band formed in 1959 and earned a recording contract five years later. In 1966, John Fogerty and Doug Clifford were drafted. They returned by 1968. CCR created a unique sound combining country with rock to image swamp rock that is reminiscent of grunge. Their music became
synonymous with the war in Vietnam.

Critics savaged their final album, Mardi Gras. By this point, John Fogerty was feuding with his band mates and the record label. They dissolved in October 1972. Fogerty began a solo career in 1973.

927. Someday Never Comes by Creedence Clearwater Revival (1972)

John Fogerty writes from the point of view of a young child. His father goes away and explains that someday he will understand. Well, someday never comes. The song is autobiographical as Fogerty is writing about his experiences during his parents divorce. I always thought it was about a soldier going off to Vietnam and having to say goodbye to his 4 year old.
