Floyd openly examines the relationship between David Gilmour and Roger Waters in "Lost for Words." The song is openly sarcastic and honest. By the end, Gilmour is admitting that "sometimes you just can't win."

Pink Floyd: Arnold Layne (1967)

"Arnold Layne" is based on a real person. In the song, the character steals women's clothes from a wash line. In real life, Roger Waters knew someone that stole knickers and bras for fun. This provided inspiration for the tune.

Pink Floyd: Shine on You Crazy Diamond (1975)

The band wrote this as a tribute to Syd Barrett. The song was split in two to bookend the Wish You Were Here album. Barrett appeared in the studio with a shaved head and eyebrows while the band worked. Rick Wright and Roger Waters failed to recognize their former band mate. At first, the guys claimed they were recording this song, but years later they claim they can't remember if it was "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" or another track.

A tribute to Richard Wright using some material from the Division Bell sessions. The bulk of the album lacks lead vocals. David Gilmour said the new work is not for the download generation. Instead, it is a steady stream of music.

Pink Floyd: Have a Cigar (1975)

Roy Harper sang lead vocals on “Have a Cigar” making it one of two Pink Floyd songs featuring a guest singer (The Great Gig in the Sky). The song is about the music industry and loss of innocence and idealism in the corporate world.  The work includes the line “By the way, which one is Pink?” David Gilmour reminisced that people used to ask the band this question all the time mistaking the group’s name for a person.

Pink Floyd: Keep Talking (1994)

Stephen Hawking has done everything. He’s a best selling author, brilliant phycist, and rock star. He appeared in Pink Floyd’s 1994 single “Keep Talking.” The song hit #1 on the rock charts. David Gilmour stated the song represented a wish that problems could be solved through discussion rather than violence.

Pink Floyd emerged from the sixties psychedelic scene to become a leading prog rock band. Their music, live shows, and experimentation made them one of the most successful bands in history.

Pink Floyd formed in 1965 and coalesced around Syd Barrett. Over time, Barrett suffered from mental illness and was replaced by David Gilmour.

Barrett visited the band during the recording sessions for Wish You Were Here. No one recognized him at first.

Pink Floyd stopped recording new material after 1994. The band essentially quit after a lucrative tour.

In 2005, they reunited with Waters at Live 8:

Waters and Gilmour seemed to have buried the hatchet and have performed at charity events together.

Barrett died in 2006.

Richard Wright died in 2008.

Pink Floyd: Welcome to the Machine (1975)

Pink Floyd grew disillusioned with the music industry after Dark Side of the Moon. Wish You Were Here recounts the band's guilt and sadness over losing Syd Barrett as they hit it big, but also the cannibalistic world of the recording industry. The song is particularly notable for its synthesizers, which help to create an industrial-era world in which the individual is consumed by the collective "machine." It spooked me as a kid!

Pink Floyd: The Dogs of War (1987)

"The Dogs of War" is reminiscent of "Money" in its structure. It switches from 12/8 time to 4/4 time in the way "Money" goes from 7/4 to 4/4. Thematically, the song is about politicians waging war for money.
