"Cryin'" went gold for Aerosmith, but the video might have been even more popular. It received heavy MTV play when MTV played music. The video featured Alicia Silverstone before she became a star. It was one of three Aerosmith videos to feature Silverstone.

KISS: Heaven's on Fire (1984)

"Heaven's on Fire" is one of the few songs from the non-makeup era that KISS still performs live. The song is filled with typical KISS musical themes (fans know!). The song hit #11 on the American rock charts and the video received MTV airplay, when MTV played videos. The video included Mark St. John's official debut. He would soon leave the band with Reiter's Syndrome. Bruce Kulick replaced him shortly thereafter.

Nirvana: The Man Who Sold the World (1994)

David Bowie originally recorded "The Man Who Sold the World" in 1970. Nirvana covered the song during their unplugged performance for MTV in 1993. Bowie loved the Nirvana version, which made him realize for the first time his impact in America. Kids today now compliment Bowie for covering Nirvana when he plays the song. Bowie generally responds with a heartfelt "fuck you."

Bob Seger: American Storm (1986)

Bob Seger wrote “American Storm” after reading Bob Woodward’s biography of John Belushi. Seger thought the coke epidemic was a fad and his song would be outdated before it came out. However, the problem worsened by 1986. The music video featured James Woods, Scott Glenn, Leslie Ann Warren, and Randy Quaid and was banned by MTV. The network obviously did not get the anti-drug message.

"Head On" did better in America than in Britain. In 1989, The Jesus and Mary Chain enjoyed success in Britain and were basic unknowns in America. The song reached #2 on the Billboard Modern Rock charts and recieved airplay on MTV in the states while peaking at #57 in the mother country. For me, the song represents a transition from the 80s to the 90s. The Pixies covered "Head On" in 1991 with their version winning an award for breakthrough video.

This is an old GnR song off Use Your Illusion I.  The song begins acoustically before going electric and climaxing. Axl brings it full circle with the acoustic guitar to finish it off. I thought this song was slightly older than 1983. It came from the same period as Stone Cold and you can hear it. The video was banned from MTV for a time. Personally, I really like the lyrics and the song's vibe. The character is longing for a lost love, but it sounds like they've been apart for a century.
