The Who: You Better You Bet (1981)

This was The Who's last hit in the U.S (#18). and U.K (#9). Pete wrote the song for his then girlfriend. The song bares a resemblance to Townshend's 1980 solo hit "Let My Love Open the Door." The video became the first one to appear on MTV more than once.

Billy Joel: Uptown Girl (1983)

Today, Uptown Girl is one of Billy Joel's signature songs. In 1983, it did not perform as well as his previous single. He wrote the song about Elle Macpherson, but it became associated with Christie Brinkley. Brinkley appeared in the video and eventually married Joel.

Weird Al Yankovic: Word Crimes (2014)

This is Weird Al's best work. "Word Crimes" is a parody of grammatical miscues put to Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines." The song reached #39 on the charts. Weird Al became the third artist to have Top 40 hits in every decade since the 1980s. The other two: Michael Jackson and Madonna.

Unchained by Van Halen (1981)

I wonder if Ted Templeman just had enough of David Lee Roth or if the "Come on, Dave, gimme a break!" was planned. Awesome song notable for the MXR M-117 flanger...check it out online.

No Woman No Cry by Bob Marley (1974)

Bob Marley gave songwriting credit to his friend Vincent Ford. Ford ran a soup kitchen in a Jamaican ghetto. The royalties kept the kitchen, and Ford, afloat.

Hello I Love You by The Doors (1968)

Jim Morrison wrote a poem for a girl on the beach. The Doors later turned it into this iconic song. "Hello I Love You" became the band’s first UK hit. Later, a UK court ruled the band copied The Kinks "All Day and All of the Night" for the song’s structure.
