Steely Dan: Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2001

Steely Dan infused jazz and funk together with rock to create a unique sound. The music tends to be complex and they have been criticized for overproduction. Their strength derives from sarcasm and human themes ranging from drug abuse to relationships.

Donald Fagen and Walter Becker met in 1967 and moved to New York in 1969 to sell their songs to the famous Brill Building. It took three years of hard work before they began to experience success.

They broke up in 1981 and reunited in 1993.

They defeated Eminem for Album of the Year at the Grammy’s in 2001. They continue to tour to this day.
