Metallica: Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2009 part 3

2001-present

In 2001, Jason Newsted left Metallica. He was replaced with Robert Trujillo. The Newsted departure and other internal problems appeared in the documentary Some Kind of Monster.

It appeared Metallica might fold, but they released their eighth album in 2003. St Anger hit #1 on the Billboard charts.

Then came Death Magnetic.

They played with Lou Reed at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame concert and decided to record with him. There was an unnecessary major backlash from fans.

Since 2011, Metallica have toured with The Big Four Thrash bands, held their own festival, and released the film Through the Never.
